The road towards a world of autonomous cars is paved with bumps and obstacles. Technology, responsibility or even driver acceptance are not quite there yet. But the most difficult to overcome is the law. In most states and countries letting a fully autonomous vehicle drive you around is still prohibited. A lack of coordination and swiftness of umbrella organisations is to blame. Driverless cars legislation needs the UNECE, the European Union or the American Federation to step up.


Currently most of the legislative and executive power lies with the countries, the states or provinces. Luckily these local governments are slowly adapting to the idea of driverless cars and step by step laws are being changed in favor of the self-driver.
